Enable treasure hunter quests ?
IronJames brought up the treasure hunter quests not being enabled on our server. The gist of treasure hunter quests is there are a bunch of quests which reward you with tokens. These tokens can then be used to purchase decent items. All these items can be gotten through the vanilla game, but many would otherwise require you to kill an mvp.
Here are the rewards - they may not be exactly the same as what the emulator provides but they are close enough. If you want to know what the emulator provides, the list is pretty self explanatory in the code.
There are two items which I'd disable, Mjolnir and Balmung as they are too powerful to allow for grinding via these quests.
One last change IronJames requested was that we add certain daggers to the list of rewards. They would be reasonably priced and setting those would be easy enough. I can post the list and prices if people are okay with adding daggers.
If I don't hear feedback by may 4th over whether we should enable treasure hunter quests then I'll be enabling them and making the above changes.
I am all for adding content/quests to the server. I took a look at the second link provided and it says "You'll need to pay 200,000,000 zeny to become a treasure hunter." will you be looking at changing this or no? cause if not I have A LOT of hunting to do
Haha thanks for the input. And by default the cost is 25,000 zeny, which I think is fine
I have no problem with THQ quest being implemented, given they were in the emulator already. I agree it would be nice to have some of the level 4 daggers included as well, however, it would be dependent on the list of daggers. It feels like a lot of the rewards on here are OG level 4 weapons that are very niche and cool, long power crept by current standards of RO. Giving easier access to these isnt too game breaking in my eyes. Fair prizes for those willing to grind it out!
I dont know how I feel about being able to get cards from THQ. On one hand, many times I have frustrated over a specific card and wished there was an alternative. On the other hand, I've always felt cards should always be grinded for, its just so embedded in the game. (Not including OCAs but thats neither here or there). I suppose im neutral on THQ cards. Perhaps replace specific cards with an OCA?
Though something to keep in mind of these alternative item obtaining methods (THQ, monster race...etc) is that the two should be someone balanced with each other. If monster races are 100% faster than THQ, than no one will do THQ. If THQ is guaranteed faster, then no one is going to do monster races. Since their prize pools seem to overlap quite a bit (especially if we add daggers to THQ), as long as their "grind time" is balanced to be similar for both methods, ill be down for an addition method (THQ).
EDIT: I realize now that THQs are timelocked? Like one quest per hour? If thats the case, ignore what I said about grind time. Thats plenty of time investment required.
re: daggers - if you and IronJames are okay with having daggers then I'd appreciate if you guys put together the list along with token amounts. They don't have to be perfect and we can always adjust later, but my knowledge on what daggers should be included is nil so I'd appreciate the help.
re: cards - what you say makes sense to me. The main reason I didn't mind the cards being on here is that all of them were relatively easy grinds anyway. However to get an OCA would require a longer grind than any of the listed cards, correct ? Unless there's a way to get an OCA I'm unaware of, it looks like the easiest grind would be the wander man.
edit: IronJames mentioned the following daggers as possible rewards: exerciser, combat knife, ice pick, fortune sword, dagger of counter, weeder knife, dragon killer.
edit 2: I checked the code and it looks like THQs are timelocked to one per hour. If you quit a quest then you get a penalty of waiting between 2 and 3 hours.
@badmin With that kind of timelock, I'm okay with all of the above list of daggers. a 400 TKN item would take 80 5-TKN quests, which would equate to 80 ingame hours. You're 100% working your butt off for them.
haha sounds good
@badmin I based these costs on the costs of existing items on the list.
130 TK - dagger of counter, fortune sword
140 TK - exerciser, weeder knife, dragon killer,
300 TK (?) [im thinking 200- 400] - combat knife, ice pick
as for cards, after a more careful inspection of TK costs, they can stay as is. 540TK for a mummy card is ALOT. If going the OCA route, maybe 250 TK for OCA given how many garbage cards are in OCAs.
its really tough to price items, especially when Tirfing is 320TK and Mummy card id 540 TK by default. Items like combat knife and ice pick are objectively better than tirfing and mummy card by a long shot. so some of the items need their costs lowered, so the "good items" can be 300TK range. Otherwise, good items like ice pick and combat knife would have to be in the 600 range, which translated into game time is a ridiculous amount of time.
thanks much - works for me.
My only thought regarding OCA is that it should cost relative to how long it would take to grind compared to the other cards. So if OCA takes longer to grind for than a mummy card, then I'd expect it to cost more. Maybe we just leave the OCA out ? We can wait for IronJames to weigh in as well as I'm not married to any given approach.
And I'm also down to re-price the items if we think the balance is overly strange. I don't want to spend too much time on balance given those discussions can be endless - maybe putting items into price tiers based off rarity would be the quickest route ?
@badmin agreed. Lets keep the OCA off the list. And rearrange the costs of items using existing TK tiers. It should be easy enough for me to put together a word doc of the above
I'd appreciate that a lot
@badmin Logic: Im avoiding personal bias by placing the items in the nearest tier as their original costs. I chose the tiers by rounding them to the nearest 50. The items should be more or less similar in cost in comparison to each other vs the original but overall a bit cheaper to make room for 250TK tier. I chose 250TK as the new highest tier based on 5-TK per quest, and an average play of 3 hours per day. 250TK would take 50x 5-TK quests = 50 in-game hours @ 3hours per day = 16.67 days (or a 24/7 bot; 2 days).
If what I have laid out isnt grindy enough, we can bump up the tiers by increments of 50TK each (ie: 50 into 100, 250 into 300...etc)
As for zeny and cards, they can stay the same for the time being.
Spike, Kaiser Knuckle, Beserk, Rapture Rose, Chemeti
Edge, Elemental Books, Bible, Tablet, Elemental Katars, Grand Cross, Quadrille, Slash, Mighty Staff, Bone Wand, Staff of Soul
NEW: Dagger of counter, Fortune Sword
Sabbath, Slaughter, Tomahawk, Great Axe, Guillotine, Solar Sword, Caesar's Sword, Nagan, Dragon Slayer, Schweizersaber, Katzbalger, Book Of The Apocalypse, Rudra's Bow, Roguemaster's Bow, Infiltrator, wizardry staff
NEW: Exorciser, Weeder Knife, Dragon Killer
Immaterial Sword, Exalibur, Byeollugumn, Talefing, Murmasa
NEW: Combat Knife, Ice Pick.
makes sense to me. I always plan on keeping these threads up til the time I originally planned, so if anyone thinks we should modify further, we can adjust then.
If what I have laid out isn't grindy enough
I trust your whatever you first thought felt right. If you change your mind, then I trust whatever you change your mind to . May 4th though - the door shuts and we move on !
